So, first, the best thing to do is make certain you get all your questions answered by the orthodontist and the practice’s advocate. Don’t hold back. Be assertive. Don’t feel you have to be deferential to the doctor! My own goal in this is to have every patient and every patient’s parent fully knowledgeable about every aspect of the treatment so that they have zero anxiety.

Second, visit ExcellenceInOrthodontics.org, cao-aco.org, or aaoinfo.org. These are professional organizations who provide carefully curated, vetted, authoritative, accurate, and understandable patient and parent information. These can definitely help you decide on the questions you want answers to.

Finally, ask around. I’d suspect there are a few of your friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who have a friend or family member in orthodontic treatment at our office. Drill them with questions on their experiences, thoughts and feelings about our office.
